Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team falls to Kenyon/Wanamingo 63-49 to cap busy first full week of the season

Coming off a 66-51 win at home over Southeast Conference rival Houston Friday night, the Lyle/Pacell Athletics boys basketball team, who played two sets of back-to-back games in a busy first full week of the 2023-2024 season capped off the week by traveling to Kenyon to take on the Knights of Kenyon-Wanamingo in a non-conference game Saturday, and it was the Knights starting the game on a 16-5 run to take a lead they would not relinquish in a 63-49 win.

LP answered with an 11-3 run of their own in the first half to edge as close as three points at 19-16, but the Knights came right back with a 12-0 spurt to take back a 15-point lead at 31-16.  The Athletics were able to trim the lead back to nine points at the half at 39-27, but they would get no closer than seven points at 41-34 the rest of the way as the Knights were able to push their lead to 11 points at 49-38 soon afterward, and their lead never dipped below 10 or fewer points the rest of the way.

The Athletics had two players in double figures in scoring as junior guard Landon Meyer led the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, plus he also chipped in a team-high five assists and two steals, Dylan Christianson was also in double figures in scoring with 15 points, plus he added three rebounds and two assists, Marshall Burma drained two of LP’s four 3-pointers in the game on his way to seven points, Andrew Fredrick added four points, Leland Hick swished a 3-pointer for three points, and Chase Bauer scored two points.

With the loss, the Athletics are now 3-2 overall on the season, and Lyle/Pacelli returns to action Tuesday night at All Saints Arena versus the Hayfield Vikings in a non-conference matchup, with the varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m. that evening.
