Austin man convicted after pleading guilty to felony criminal vehicular operation charge in Mower County District Court

An Austin man who caused a two-vehicle accident while intoxicated at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 4th St. SW in Austin on the evening of July 29th, 2023 that sent a 16-year old male from Austin to the hospital for an extended period of time with serious injuries is pleading guilty in Mower County District Court.  

24-year-old Jeffer Lorenzo was convicted Friday after pleading guilty to a felony charge of criminal vehicular operation, great bodily harm, under the influence of alcohol.  Lorenzo originally pleaded not guilty to the charge on August 17th, 2023, and he also pleaded not guilty the same day to a felony charge of criminal vehicular operation, great bodily harm, driver who causes a collision leaves the scene, plus Lorenzo also pleaded not guilty to gross misdemeanor charges of criminal vehicular operation, bodily harm, under the influence of alcohol, criminal vehicular operation, bodily harm, driver leaves the scene of a collision, and also for reckless driving, drives consciously disregarding a substantial or unjustifiable risk, and Lorenzo also pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of 4th degree DWI, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  

Sentencing for Lorenzo in Mower County District Court has been scheduled for June 13th.
