Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team downs Mabel-Canton 76-66 Tuesday evening
The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team was looking to get back on the winning track in Mabel Tuesday evening versus the Cougars of Mabel-Canton in the Southeast Conference, and junior forward Dylan Christianson put up a stat line of 22 points, eight rebounds, one assist, two steals and a blocked shot to help lead the Athletics to a 76-66 win.
Trailing 4-3 early in the first half, the Athletics used a 14-4 run to take an 17-8 lead with 12:16 left in the half, and they then worked their way in front by 12 points at 29-17 with 7:42 left and did not let the Cougars whittle the lead under 10 for the rest of the half as they led 41-26 at the halftime break. Mabel-Canton then started the second half on a 13-4 run of their own to trim LP’s lead to six points at 45-39, but they would get no closer as the Athletics responded by later boosting their lead to 60-49, and they were able to expand the lead to as large as 15 points at 70-55 on their way to the win.
Besides Christianson’s 22 points, Landon Meyer was able to tally 20+ points for the second game in a row as he finished with 20 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double, plus five assists and one steal for good measure, Chase Bauer was also in double figures in points with 19, including three of LP’s nine 3-pointers in the game, plus he added seven rebounds, two assists and a team-high four steals, Isaac Nelsen finished with six points, Andrew Fredrick chipped in five points, and Marshall Burma swished a 3-pointer for three points in the win.
The Athletics are now 2-1 on the young season and 2-0 in the Southeast Conference, and a busy week for Lyle/Pacelli continues Friday night as they play host to the Houston Hurricanes at All Saints Arena, with the varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m. that evening.
