Blooming Prairie edges Southland in non-conference boys basketball 47-46 Monday evening

Two of the top boys basketball teams not only in Section 1A, but also in the state squared off in Adams Monday evening as the Southland Rebels, the No. 13 team in the state in the latest Class A poll played host to the No. 9 ranked Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms, and in a game that went right down to the wire, the Blossoms were able to rally in the second half to edge the Rebels by a score of 47-46.

The Blossoms trailed 25-18 at the half, as Gabe Hein led BP in scoring with 18 points, Brady Kittleson drained one of the squad’s three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points, Zack Hein also drained a 3 as he totaled nine points, Cooper Cooke scored five points, and Gabe Staloch added four points.  For Southland, Nick Edland drilled four of the team’s 10 3-pointers on his way to 16 points, Cole Miller drained three 3’s as he totaled 11 points, Sam Boe added six points, Jonas Wiste and Gavin Nelson both scored five points, and Noah Bauer swished a 3-pointer for three points.

With the win, their fourth in a row, the Blossoms are now 21-2 overall on the season, while the Rebels saw a 6-game winning streak come to an end, and they are now 18-4 for the season.  Blooming Prairie returns to action Friday night at home versus Alden-Conger in another non-conference matchup, with the tip-off at 7:15 p.m., while the Rebels will travel to LeRoy Thursday night for a Southeast Conference matchup with the LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals, with tip-off also at 7:15 p.m. that evening.
