Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team stays unbeaten with 7-3 win over GMLOK Monday

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team was looking to keep their early-season record unblemished at home Monday versus the Bulldogs of GMLOK in a non-conference matchup, and a four-run bottom of the second inning helped to propel the Blossoms past the Bulldogs 7-3.

The Blossoms jumped out to a 6-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to go with the four-run second, and they added another run in the bottom of the third for a 7-0 lead.  GMLOK tried to rally with one in the top of the fourth and two in the sixth, but Blossoms starting pitcher Macy Lembke and the BP defense shut the door from there on their way to the win.

Lembke went the distance in the circle for the Blossoms and gave up the three Bulldog runs, two earned, on four hits, striking out seven and walking four.  Lembke also helped her own cause at the plate by going 1 for 4 with two runs scored, first baseman Lily Schammel had a huge day at the plate as she was 2 for 4 with four runs knocked in, Rachel Winzenburg went 2 for 4 with a run scored, Shawntee Snyder was 1 for 3 with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Anna Haberman went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored, and catcher Layla Lembke was 1 for 3 as the Blossoms totaled nine hits for the game, plus they also used five GMLOK errors to score five unearned runs on their way to the win.

With the win, Blooming Prairie is now 5-0 on the season, and the Blossoms are back into action in the Gopher Conference at Medford Thursday, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.  With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 2-3 overall on the season, and after a Southeast Conference matchup with Schaeffer Academy in Spring Valley Tuesday (today) was rained out, GMLOK will be back into action next Monday at home versus Rochester Lourdes, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
