Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team edges Maple River 3-2 Thursday

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team was looking to keep its early season record unblemished at home Thursday afternoon in a matchup with Gopher Conference rival Maple River, and a run in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference in a 3-2 Blossoms win.

The Blossoms took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings, but the Eagles scored two runs to tie the game at 2-2 until the run for BP in the bottom of the fifth, and starting pitcher Macy Lembke and the Blossoms defense were able to hold Maple River off the scoreboard the rest of the way for the win.

Lembke helped her own cause at the plate by going 2 for 3 with a walk, plus she scored all three runs for the Blossoms, while Rachel Winzenburg and Shawntee Snyder were both 1 for 3.  Shortstop Catelyn Bartlett picked up the other hit in the game for BP, a double, in three official trips to the plate.

Lembke went the distance in the circle for the Blossoms and gave up the two Maple River runs, both unearned, on three hits, striking out five and walking none.

Blooming Prairie is out to a 3-0 start, and the Awesome Blossoms continue a busy week as they are right back into action in the Gopher Conference this (Friday) afternoon versus NRHEG, with first pitch in New Richland scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
