Austin’s Both Gach granted immediate eligibilty to play for Gophers this season

Minnesota Gopher junior guard and former Austin Packer standout Both Gach has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.

Gach transferred from the University of Utah to be closer to his family during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 6-foot-6, 183-pound Gach played a major role in helping the Packers to a Class AAA runner-up finish at the 2016 state boys’ basketball tournament, and he will bolster an already strong Gopher backcourt that also includes Marcus Carr, who has been named to the All-Big 10 preseason basketball team, Gabe Kalscheur, Tre’ Williams and Jamall Mashburn, Jr.  Gach is the second transfer to have a waiver granted to avoid sitting out this season, joining Drake 7-footer Liam Robbins.

After helping to lead Austin to the state Class AAA runner-up finish in 2016, Gach continued his prep career at Arizona Compass Prep, where he became a four-star prospect.  He then went on to play at Utah, where he averaged 7.7 points per game as a freshman, and 10.7 points per game as a sophomore in 25 starts.
