Austin Packers boys hockey team falls to Northfield 11-1 Thursday evening

In a game you heard on AM 1480 KAUS, the Austin Packers boys hockey team faced their sternest test of the young 2023-2024 season to date Thursday evening as they played host to defending Section 1A and Big 9 Conference champion Northfield, and it was Fargo Force draftee Kam Kaiser tallying four goals and two assists for six points as seven different Raiders scored overall in an 11-1 win.

Gahvin Schaefer scored the lone goal for Austin at 7:57 of the first period, with an assist to Grady Carney to cut the Northfield lead at that time to 3-1, but the Raiders wound up scoring four goals in the first period, four again in the second and three in the third, and they also amassed 70 shots on goal in the game to 14 for the Packers.

The Packers are now 3-1 overall on the season and 1-1 in the Big 9 Conference, and the squad is back into action versus Chaska in a non-conference game at Riverside Arena Saturday afternoon, with face-off at noon.
