Austin Packers baseball team falls to Northfield 15-3 Tuesday

Coming off a 6-3, non-conference loss to St. Peter Saturday, the Austin Packers baseball team was back in action at Dick Seltz Field Tuesday versus Big 9 Conference and Section 1AAA rival Northfield, and in a game where Head Coach Jacob Nelson stated that errors and routine plays the Packers failed to make were the biggest difference, the Raiders were able to pull away late for a 15-3 win.

Northfield jumped out to a 6-0 lead with one run in the top of the first, one in the third and four in the fourth before the Packers tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Raiders lead to 6-2.  Each team scored a run in the fifth inning to make the score 7-3, but it was the Raiders then pulling away late with four runs in the top of the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to account for the 15-3 final.

Offensively for the Packers, Peyton Ransom went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Isaac Osgood was also 2 for 4, plus a run scored, Dakota Retterath belted a triple in three trips to the plate for an RBI and a run scored, and Ethan Anderson and Isaiah Conway each picked up hits as well.  The Packers sent three pitchers to the mound on Tuesday, and starter Isaac Osgood was tagged with the loss as he went the first 3 and 2/3rds of an inning and gave up six runs, with only two earned, on seven hits, striking out six and walking two.  Jonah Klein pitched 1 and 2/3rds of an inning Tuesday and gave up five runs, four hits and one walk, and John Rolie went the last 1 and 1/3rd of an inning and surrendered four runs on three hits, and he struck one and walked two.

With the loss, the Packers are now 5-8 overall on the season, and the squad is back into action on Thursday as they travel to Faribault for a doubleheader with the Falcons, with Game 1 scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
