Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team wraps up regular season with 11-0 win over GMLOK Saturday morning

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team wrapped up another busy stretch of games Saturday morning as they traveled to Spring Valley to take on Southeast Conference rival GMLOK, and in their regular-season finale that capped a stretch of four games in five days, the Athletics picked up a complete-game five-hit shutout on the mound from veteran righthander Isaac Nelsen, plus they used eight Bulldog errors to score seven unearned runs in an 11-0 win.

The Athletics broke out on top with two runs in each of the first and second innings for a quick 4-0 lead, and those would prove to be all the runs Nelsen would need as he blanked the Bulldogs on five hits in seven innings of work, striking out 15 and walking two.  The Athletics offense then kept adding to the lead with two more runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to account for the 11-0 final.

Offensively for Lyle/Pacelli, Nelsen helped his own cause on the mound by going 1 for 3 with two RBI’s, Landon Meyer was 2 for 4 with a run knocked in a two more scored, Dane Schara was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Isaac Small was 1 for 4 with a double, Grady Meyer went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Joey Schulte was 1 for 1 with a run scored, Hunter VaDeer was hit by a pitch three times in the game and scored three runs, Logyn Brooks scored a pair of runs, and Jake Kiker also scored a run in the win.  For GMLOK, Connor Tangen went 2 for 2 with a double, Noah Mundfrom rapped out two hits, and Connor Johnson added the other hit in the game for the Bulldogs as the Athletics totaled 11 runs, seven hits, one error and six left on base, while GMLOK totaled no runs on five hits, eight errors and six men left on base as well.

Lyle/Pacelli will open the defense of their Section 1A title at Marcusen Park Wednesday as the No. 2 seeded Athletics will host No. 15 seed Fillmore Central, and you’ll hear the game on AM 1480 KAUS, with the pregame show on the air at 4:45 p.m., and first pitch at 5:00 p.m.  The Bulldogs will be the No. 14 seed in the Section 1AA tournament, and they will travel to Zumbrota Wednesday to take on the No. 3 seeded Cougars of Zumbrota-Mazeppa, with first pitch at 5:00 p.m. that afternoon.
