Area football roundup from Wednesday evening

In area football action from the Mid-Southeast District Wednesday evening, the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms faced a tough road test in their regular season finale as they traveled to Bruce Smith Field in Faribault to meet the Bethlehem Academy Cardinals, the No. 7 team in the state in the last Class A poll of the regular season and winners of four in a row, and Blossoms quarterback Brady Kittleson carried the ball 30 times for 189 yards and three touchdowns, plus running back Cole Wangen carried the ball 19 times for 169 yards and a touchdown as the Blossoms erased a 20-12 first quarter deficit on their way to a big 42-40 win.

Kittleson also threw for 89 yards and a touchdown, and running back Bradley Boyd also ran for a score as the Blossoms rolled up 419 rushing yards for the game.  With the win, Blooming Prairie finishes the regular season on a decided high note and a record of 5-3, and they are awaiting their opponent in the Section 1A playoffs, which get underway next Tuesday.

In District 9 Southeast action in Grand Meadow Wednesday evening, the Superlarks were looking for win number two in a row as they played host to the LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals, who came into the game with a record of 6-1 and a No. 9 ranking in the last Class 9-Player poll of the regular season.  As he has all season long, Cardinals junior quarterback Camden Hungerholt stole the show as he carried the ball 20 times for a whopping 340 yards and five touchdowns, plus he was 14 for 22 passing for 224 yards and two scores as the Cardinals exploded for 608 yards of total offense in a 54-32 win.

Wide receiver Carter Sweeney hauled in five passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, and fellow wide receiver Reid Hungerholt tallied six catches for 82 yards and a score as the Cardinals scored 50 or more points for the fifth time this season.

With the win, LeRoy/Ostrander closes out the regular season with a record of 7-1, while Grand Meadow finishes with a record of 2-6.  Both teams now await their first-round opponents in the Section 1 9-player tournament, which gets underway next Tuesday evening.
