Lyle/Pacelli garners No. 3 seed in State Class A baseball tournament; will meet unseeded Hinckley/Finlayson in quarterfinals Tuesday

The quarterfinal opponent for the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team in the State Class A tournament has been determined.

The Athletics, who received the No. 3 seed in the tournament Saturday will take on the unseeded Hinckley/Finlayson Jaguars out of Section 5A at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13th at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.  The first game of the tournament will get underway at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning as No. 2 seed New Ulm Cathedral, the champions of Section 2 will meet unseeded Yellow Medicine East, the champions of Section 3, and following the Lyle/Pacelli-Hinckley/Finlayson matchup, No. 1 seed South Ridge, the champions of Section 7A will take on unseeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, the Section 6 champion at 3:30 p.m., and the last quarterfinal matchup of the day will pit No. 4 seed Legacy Christian Academy, champions of Section 4 against No. 5 seed and Section 8A champion Fosston at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The winners of the quarterfinal games will play back at Joe Faber Field at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14th, while the losers of the quarterfinal games will play in the consolation semifinals at Bob Cross Field in Sauk Rapids at 10:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.  The winners of those two games will then play for the consolation championship at Bob Cross Field at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.  The losers of the winner’s bracket seminfinal games will play for third place at Joe Faber Field at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

The semifinal winners will meet for the State Class A championship at CHS Field in St. Paul on Friday, June 16th at 10:00 a.m. that morning.  Lyle/Pacelli enters its first-ever State Class A baseball tournament with a record of 22-1 and a 12-game winning streak, and you’ll hear all of the games from the state tournament on AM 1480 KAUS, myaustinminnesota.com and the I Heart Radio and radio.com apps, starting with LP’s quarterfinal matchup with Hinckley/Finlayson Tuesday afternoon, with the pre-game show airing at 12:50 p.m., and first pitch from Joe Faber Field at 1 p.m.
