Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team wins 2024 home opener 10-0 over GMLOK in five innings Tuesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team played their 2024 home opener at Marcusen Park Tuesday versus the Bulldogs of GMLOK in a Southeast Conference tilt,  and it was senior pitcher Isaac Nelsen giving up only one hit through five innings of work as the Athletics blanked the Bulldogs 10-0 in five innings.

For the second game in a row, the Athletics jumped out to an early lead as they plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead, and they added two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to invoke the 10-run rule.  Offensively for LP, Grady Meyer was 1 for 3 with two RBI’s, Dane Schara was 1 for 2 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored, Hunter Wollenburg went 1 for 2 at the plate with a run knocked in and two scored, Hunter VaDeer was 1 for 2 with a triple and an RBI, Landon Meyer was also 1 for 2 with a run knocked in and two scored, Isaac Small was credited with a pair of RBI’s Isaac Nelsen helped his own cause with an RBI and a run scored, and Logyn Brooks, Jack Klingfus and Dawson Jenkins also all scored runs in the win, while No. 3 hitter Caden Reiter registered the only hit of the game for GMLOK.

Nelsen was stellar on the mound for the Athletics as he fanned eight and walked only one batter in his 5-inning one-hit shutout, while Parker Johnson was tagged with the loss for GMLOK as he gave up the 10 Lyle/Pacelli runs, all earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking six.

With the win, the Athletics are out to a 3-0 start, and they return to action next Monday on the road at Rushford-Peterson for a non-conference matchup, with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.  With the loss, GMLOK is now 1-1 on the young sesaon, and the Bulldogs return to the diamond in Kingsland Thursday versus Southland in a Southeast Conference matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
