Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team doubles up Blooming Prairie 6-3 Saturday for seventh win in a row

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team wrapped up a seven-game-in-six-day oddessy at Marcusen Park Saturday versus the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms in a non-conference matchup, and it was the Athletics earning their seventh win in a row by the score of 6-3.

The game was scoreless through an inning and a half until Lyle/Pacelli plated a run in the bottom of the second inning for a 1-0 lead.  After the Blossoms moved out in front with three runs of their own in the top of the third for a 3-1 lead, the Athletics rallied back with one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth to secure the win.

Lyle/Pacelli was led offensively by starting pitcher Jack Klingfus, who went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.  Leadoff hitter Landon Meyer went 1 for 4 with a run knocked in and another scored, Hunter VaDeer was 1 for 2 with a run scored, Jake Truckenmiller picked up an RBI and a run scored, catcher Logyn Brooks also notched an RBI and scored two runs, while Dane Schara also scored a run in the win.  For Blooming Prairie, Alex Lea was 1 for 4 with a triple, two RBI’s and a run scored, Lance Lembke was 1 for 4 with an RBI, and Brady Kittleson, Jesse Cardenas and Carsten Ingvaldson all added hits in the game, with Cardenas and Ingvaldson also scoring runs.

Jack Klingfus pitched the first three innings of Saturday’s game for the Athletics and gave up the three Blooming Prairie runs, all earned, on five hits, striking out one and walking one.  Dane Schara then came in and pitched the last four innings to earn the win, as he gave up no runs on no hits, striking out four and walking two.

With the win, Lyle/Pacelli is now 17-1 on the season, and the Athletics will finish the regular season on the road today (Monday) in Goodhue versus the Wildcats in a non-conference matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.  After Monday, the Athletics will be off until Saturday, as they have earned the No. 1 seed in the Section 1A playoffs, and they will play the winner of the game between No. 8 seed Spring Grove and No. 9 seed Wabasha/Kellogg, as those two teams will play Wednesday in Spring Grove at 5 p.m.  The game Saturday for Lyle/Pacelli will be played at Dick Seltz Field at Riverland Community College at 12:00 p.m.
