Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team holds off Goodhue 5-4 Monday

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team, ranked No. 3 in the state in the latest Class A rankings from the Minnesota Fastpitch Coach’s Association was looking to run its current winning streak to three games with a non-conference matchup at home versus the Goodhue Wildcats, and it was the Blossoms holding off a Wildcat rally in the top of the seventh to win 5-4.

The game was tied at 1-1 after one inning of play when the Blossoms scored one in the third and three more in the the fourth to take a 5-1 lead, but the Wildcats nearly came all the way back in the top of the seventh inning as they pushed across three runs to cut the Blossoms lead to 5-4 before pitcher Macy Lembke and the BP defense were able to shut the door and preserve the win.

Lembke helped her own cause in the circle at the plate as she rapped out three of BP’s seven hits in the game, including a double in four trips to the plate, plus she scored three runs and swiped three bases for good measure, Shawntee Snyder went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI’s and a run scored, Layla Lembke went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, shortstop Catelyn Bartlett was 1 for 3, and leftfielder Madelyn Harvey scored a run in the win Monday.

Lembke went the distance in the circle for the Blossoms Monday and gave up the four Goodhue runs, one of which was earned as the two teams combined for seven errors in the game, three for the Blossoms and four for the Wildcats that led to a combined five unearned runs.  Lembke gave up five hits, struck out eight and walked four in pitching the Blossoms to the win.

Blooming Prairie is now 11-2 on the season, and the Blossoms will tangle with another state-ranked team in Class A today (Tuesday) as they travel to United South Central to take on the Rebels, who are No. 4 in the latest poll, with the Gopher Conference matchup scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
