LeRoy man sentenced to jail time, supervised probation on assault and malicious punishment of a child charges in Mower County District Court
A LeRoy man who pleaded guilty to charges of assault and malicious punishment of a child in Mower County District Court after committing domestic abuse on a juvenile male in the city of LeRoy in April of 2021, and in April and October of 2022 has been sentenced to jail time and supervised probation.
40-year-old Jeffrey Michael Phillips was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail, and five years of supervised probation for a felony charge of 3rd degree assault, substantial bodily harm stemming from an incident in LeRoy on October 4th, 2022. A 15-month prison sentence was stayed for five years if Phillips complies with the 22 different conditions of his probation, and he was also sentenced Thursday to 364 days in jail and three years of supervised probation for a gross misdemeanor charge of malicious punishment of a child. Judge Natalie Martinez stayed 286 days of the jail term for three years if Phillips complies with the terms of his probation, and he was given credit for 78 days already served. Phillips was convicted on the two charges on January 26th of this year after pleading guilty the same day, and two felony charges for 3rd degree assault, past pattern of child abuse, a felony charge for malicous punishment of a child, substantial bodily harm, and a gross misdemeanor charge for malicious punishment of a child, plus two gross misdemeanor charges for domestic assault in the case against Phillips were dismissed with his guilty pleas.
Phillips was also sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail, three years of supervised probation, and $1,160 in fines and fees for a gross misdemeanor charge of domestic assault stemming from another incident in LeRoy on April 1st, 2021. Judge Martinez stayed 281 days of a 364-day jail sentence for three years if Phillips complies with the 23 different conditions of his probation, and Phillips was given credit for 83 days already served. Phillips was convicted on the charge on January 26th of this year after pleading guilty the same day, and three additional charges, including a felony for 3rd degree assault, substantial bodily harm, a gross misdemeanor for domestic assault, subsequent violation, and a felony for 3rd degree assault, past pattern of child abuse stemming from an incident that occurred in LeRoy on April 1st, 2022 against Phillips were all dismissed with his guilty plea.
