Austin Police respond to report of shots fired early Sunday morning

Austin Police are investigating after a report of shots fired in the southwest section of the city early Sunday morning.

Chief of Police Dave McKichan stated in a report that officers responded to a fight call in the 1000 block of 9th Avenue SW at approximately 2:56 a.m. Sunday morning.  It was reported that shots may have been fired, and Chief McKichan stated that some people fled from the scene upon officers’ arrival.  Officers questioned and released multiple individuals who had remained on the scene, and McKichan stated that spent shell casings were found in the area, along with a handgun on the ground under a car.

No injuries were reported to Austin Police stemming from the incident, and Chief McKichan stated that the case remains under investigation.
