The Austin Packers boys’ swimming and diving team played host to the Section 1A True Team Meet in Bud Higgins Pool in Ellis Middle School Monday, as the meet was postponed from Saturday due to blizzard-like conditions in southeastern Minnesota.  The Packers won six events, including a new pool record for junior Logan Kelly in the 100 breaststroke to help lead Austin to a third-place finish and a spot in the State Class A True Team Swim Meet coming up Saturday at the University of Minnesota.

Kelly’s time of 57.43 seconds broke the record of 58.72 seconds set by Kendrick Bachman of Rochester John Marshall back in 2009.  In the 200 medley relay, the team of Kelly, Rafe Dolan Peterson Trey Meyers and Aaron Knoll took first for the Packers with a time of 1:38.66, and Meyers was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.95.   Kelly was first for Austin in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.17, and Knoll was third in the 50 freestyle with a final time of 23.37.

With their 3rd place finish, Austin qualifies for the State Class A True Team Meet coming up this Saturday at the University of Minnesota’s Cook Swimming Complex.  Warmups for Class A get underway at 11:00 a.m., with the meet starting at noon.
