The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team was looking to get back on the winning track at home Thursday versus the Bethlehem Academy Cardinals in a Gopher Conference matchup, and three Blossoms belted out two hits apiece to back a strong pitching performance from Macy Lembke in a 6-2 win.
The Cardinals tallied two runs in the top of the first inning and led 2-0 through two innings of play when the Blossoms started to rally back with one run of their own in the bottom of the third, and they took the lead for good with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 lead, and they added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on their way to the win.
Offensively for the Blossoms, junior centerfielder Ella Smith helped to lead the way by going 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBI’s and a run scored, catcher Layla Lembke and first baseman Lily Schammel were both 2 for 4, with one of Lembke’s hits being a double, second baseman Rachel Winzenburg went 1 for 3 with an RBI, third baseman Shawntee Snyder was 1 for 4 with a run knocked in, pitcher Macy Lembke went 1 for 4 with a run scored and two stolen bases, leftfielder Anna Haberman was 1 for 3 Thursday with a run scored, and shortstop Catelyn Bartlett went 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the comeback win.
Macy Lembke was strong in the circle for the Blossoms Thursday as she gave up the two Bethlehem Academy runs, both earned, on seven hits, striking out four and walking four as the Blossoms also played flawless defense behind Lembke in the win.
The Awesome Blossoms are now 12-3 overall on the season, and the squad returns to action in Rose Creek Saturday morning versus the Southland Rebels in a matchup of two of the top teams in Section 1A, with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
