Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team stays unbeaten on the season with 10-0, 5-inning win over Mabel-Canton Thursday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team, the No. 1 team in the state in the latest Class A poll was looking to stay unbeaten at Marcusen Park Thursday versus Southeast Conference and Section 1A rival Mabel-Canton, and Hunter VaDeer and Dane Schara combined on the mound to hold the Cougars to only one hit, and a six-run bottom half of the fifth inning helped to lift the Athletics to a 10-0, 5-inning win.

The Athletics jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first and second innings before ending the contest with the six-run bottom of the fifth, and offensively for Lyle/Pacelli, four players rapped out two hits apiece, led by catcher Logyn Brooks, who finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Hunter VaDeer was a perfect 2 for 2 with a run knocked in and another scored, Landon Meyer went 2 for 3 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot, Grady Meyer was 2 for 3 Thursday with an RBI and two runs scored, Dane Schara helped his own cause on the mound by going 1 for 3 with two runs knocked in and another scored, Jack Klingfus was 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI’s Hunter Wollenburg picked up an RBI and a run scored, and Jake Kiker also scored a run in the win.

A very big reason for Lyle/Pacelli’s unbeaten record thus far this season has been their pitching, and on Thursday, Hunter VaDeer went the first two innings and picked up the win by giving up no runs on no hits, striking out five and walking two, and Dane Schara pitched the last three innings to earn a 3-inning save as he gave up no runs on only one hit, plus he struck out five and did not walk a batter.

The Athletics are now 11-0 overall on the season, and a stretch of six games in five days for LP continues today (Friday) at Neil Pierce Field in Alden as the Athletics will take on Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons in a Southeast Conference doubleheader, with Game 1 set to start at 4:00 p.m.
