Austin man pleads not guilty to felony attempted murder and assault charges in Mower County District Court

An Austin man who was taken into custody after a shooting in northwest Austin late on the morning of Saturday, June 3rd has pleaded not guilty in Mower County District Court.  

Austin Police responded to a firearms complaint at a residence at 1110 4th Avenue NW at 10:18 a.m. Saturday, June 3rd, and officers located an adult male victim at the scene who had suffered a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported from the scene by Mayo Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin, and Chief of Police McKichan indicated in a report that a suspect, 34-year old Denroy Ashan Jeffers-Brown of Austin was taken into custody later that day in connection with the incident.

Jeffers-Brown pleaded not guilty at a hearing Thursday to felony charges for 2nd degree attempted murder, with intent, not premeditated, 1st degree assault, and for 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, substantial bodily harm.  A pretrial hearing for Jeffers-Brown in Mower County District Court has been scheduled for July 21st, and a jury trial has been scheduled for August 7th.  Jeffers-Brown is being held in the Mower County jail on $250,000 bond with conditions, and $500,000 with no conditions.
