Area boys’ basketball roundup from Tuesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys’ basketball team, a squad who fell victim to cold shooting in a 57-35 loss to Kenyon/Wanamingo last Thursday night were looking to bounce back against Wabasha/Kellogg Tuesday in the opening round of the Hayfield Holiday Tournament, and Mac Nelson led five Athletics in double figures in scoring with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists as LP came away with a 65-44 win.

Senior guard Buay Koak registered 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in the win, while Landon Meyer, Trey Anderson and Hunter Bauer all scored 10 points apiece for the Athletics, who swished 11 3-point field goals on their way to the win.

LP will tangle next with the host Hayfield Vikings in the championship game tonight in Hayfield, with tip-off at 7 p.m.  The Vikings, the No. 3 team in the state in the latest Class A poll downed Faribault Bethlehem Academy 74-50 in the first round.

In Grand Meadow, the Superlarks took on Medford in the opening round of their holiday tournament, and guard Taylor Glynn poured in 23 points to help lead the Larks past the Tigers 65-47.

Connor Munson was also in double figures for Grand Meadow Tuesday with 11 points, Jace Kraft added 10 points, Roman Warmka chipped in nine points and Caleb George and Jacob Kerrins each scored five points for the Superlarks, who led 31-14 at the half on their way to the win.

Grand Meadow returns to action today (Wednesday) against Cannon Falls in the championship game at 6:00 p.m.
