Area athletes compete at State Track and Field Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School
Area track and field athletes are competing today (Friday) and Saturday at the State Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School, and for the Austin Packers boys track and field team, senior Tommy Fritz finished 22nd in the Class AA 100 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 16.37 seconds, and he did not qualify for the finals Saturday morning. Senior A’Triel Terry will take part in the boys high-jump final Saturday morning at approximately 9 a.m., as he qualfied for the state meet with an effort of 6′ 3.”
Sophomore Marissa Shute with the Packers girls track and field squad will compete in the 1600 meter run finals Saturday morning at approximately 10:46 a.m., and senior Olivia Walsh will be in Flight 2 of the girls triple jump finals starting at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Walsh qualfied for the State Class AA meet with an effort of 36′-01.75″ in the Section 1AA meet last Saturday at Lakeville South High School.
Other area athletes competing at the state meet include sophomore Chantle Reiland of the GMLOKS Bulldogs girls track and field squad, as she qualified for the State Class A 100 meter dash finals Thursday with a time of 12.74 seconds, and she and cousin Anika Reiland, a senior, will both compete in the 200 meter dash finals by running times of 26.21 and 25.34 seconds, respectively. Both Anika and Chantle Reiland will also join freshmen Lydia Redman and Breely Galle in the 4 x 200 meter relay finals, as the Bulldog squad will look to defend their title from last year by running a time of 1:43.88 in the preliminaries. Junior Lexy Foster with the Bulldogs took 12th in the discus Thursday with an effort of 107-06 in the finals.
