Lyle/Pacelli girls’ basketball falls to No. 1 seed Houston 72-31

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics girls’ basketball team, fresh off of a 51-43 win over Schaeffer Academy in the Section 1A girls’ basketball tournament play-in game Tuesday evening had to travel to Houston to take on the No. 1 seeded and undefeated Hurricanes Thursday night, and Houston showed why they are the top defensive team in the section by forcing 38 turnovers and scoring points off of those turnovers in a 72-31 win.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 12-4 lead to start the game, and they later went on a 12-0 run to take a 32-12 lead on their way to a 40-15 lead at the half.  Alana Rogne led LP in scoring Thursday evening with 14 points, while Emma Wilde added four points, Kearah Schaefer and Audrey Heard both added three points apiece, Kendahl Lewis and Madi Rysavy each scored two points apiece and Olivia Heard added one point for the Athletics, who finish the season with a 3-17 record.

With the win, Houston moves into the section quarterfinals, where they will meet No. 8 seeed Fillmore Central Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at a site yet to be determined.
