Lyle/Pacelli baseball downs GMLOK 17-3 in five innings Monday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team, the No. 6 team in the state in the last Class A poll played host to Southeast Conference foe GMLOK at Marcusen Park Monday, and the Athletics showed why they average just over 14 runs a game as they sent 14 men to the plate in the first inning and scored 10 runs on their way to a 17-3, five-inning victory.

LP parlayed a leadoff double in the bottom of the first, followed by five walks, two two RBI doubles, a two RBI single, an error, a fielder’s choice and another RBI single to tally the 10 runs, and they added two in the second, three in the third and two more in the fourth on their way to the win.  GMLOK used two singles, a fielder’s choice, a RBI single and a hit batsman with the bases loaded to score two runs in the second, and their other run came in the top of the third when leadoff hitter Dusty Copley singled, went to second on an error,  stole third and then came home when the throw went into left field.

Catcher Cole Walter helped to lead the Athletics offensivley as he went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI’s, Mac Nelson was also 2 for 3 with two doubles, as walk and three RBI’s, Jed Nelson was 1 for 2 with a double, two walks, a RBI and two runs scored, Sam Nelsen went 1 for 2 for Lyle/Pacelli with a RBI single, two walks and three runs scored, Hunter VaDeer was 1 for 4 with a single and a RBI and Landon Meyer was 1 for 2 out of the nine spot in the batting order with a two RBI singles, a walk and two runs scored.  For GMLOK, Dusty Copley, Connor Munson and Gavin Sweeny were all 1 for 3 with a run scored and Devin Carr was 1 for 1 with a RBI single.

Zach Bollingberg went the distance on the mound for Lyle/Pacelli to earn the win as he gave up the three Bulldog runs, two earned on four hits, striking out nine and walking only one.  Dusty Copley was tagged with the loss for GMLOK as the gave up 12 runs on six hits in two innings of work, nine earned, he struck out two and walked seven.  Nick Fetterly came on in relief in the bottom of the third and pitched the last two innings for the Bulldogs as he gave up five runs, three earned on four hits, striking out one and walking two.

With the win, the Athletics raise their record to 13-2 in the SEC and 15-2 overall on the season.  With the loss, GMLOK is now 6-9 in the SEC and 8-10 overall.  Lyle/Pacelli returns to action today at Southland at 4:30 p.m., while the Bulldogs will finish the regular season at home in Spring Valley Thursday against Schaeffer Academy, with first pitch also at 4:30 p.m.
