Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team downs Wabasha-Kellogg 9-3 Wednesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team crossed the midway point Wednesday in a week featuring seven games in six days as the Athletics played host to Wabasha-Kellogg out of the Three Rivers Conference in a non-league matchup, and it was Mac Nelson continuing to swing a hot bat with three hits and two RBI’s, plus righthander Isaac Nelsen striking out 12 Falcons in a 9-3 win.

As they have done so far in every game this busy week, the Athletics used a big inning to take control of the game as with the game scoreless heading into the bottom of the second, Lyle/Pacelli put up a six-spot for a 6-0 lead.  The Falcons tried to rally with two runs in the fourth and another in the top of the sixth inning to halve the LP lead at 6-3, but the Athletics responded with three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to account for the 9-3 final.

Nelson continued his torrid hitting this week by going 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Landon Meyer went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, Isaac Nelsen helped his own cause on the mound by going 2 for 4 with two runs knocked in and another scored, Hunter VaDeer went 1 for 3 with an RBI double, Logyn Brooks was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Jack Klingfus went 1 for 3 with a run knocked in and another scored, Trey Anderson went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored, and Dane Schara was 1 for 3 with a run scored in the win.

Nelsen got the start on the mound for Lyle/Pacelli and threw the first 5.67 innings for the win, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits, striking out 12 and walking two.  Dane Schara pitched the last 1.33 innings for the Athletics and gave up no runs on three hits, striking out one and walking none.

With the win, their fourth in a row, the Athletics are now 14-1 overall on the season, and Lyle/Pacelli will travel to Spring Valley for a Southeast Conference matchup with GMLOK today (Thursday), with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
