Lake Mills, Iowa man sentenced to jail time, supervised probation in three different cases in Mower County District Court

A Lake Mills, Iowa man facing felony drug possession and sales charges, plus gross misdemeanor firearm possession and DWI charges in Mower County District Court stemming from incidents that occurred in Austin from November of 2022 to November of 2023 has been sentenced to jail time, supervised probation and time in the sentence to service program.

25-year old Casey Steven Bell was sentenced Friday to five years of supervised probation and 40 hours in the sentence to service program for a felony charge of 3rd degree drugs, sale of a narcotic after selling M30 pills to a confidential informant in Austin on November 18th, 2022.  A 27-month prison sentence was stayed for five years if Bell complies with the 22 different conditions of his probation, and he was convicted on the charge on January 5th, 2024 after pleading guilty the same day.

Bell was also sentenced Friday to five years of supervised probation on a felony charge of 3rd degree drugs, possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin, and he was also sentenced to 20 days in jail, five years of supervised probation and 60 days of electronic home monitoring for a gross misdemeanor charge of DWI, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance stemming from a traffic stop in Austin on July 18th, 2023 where Bell was found to be in possession of 18.11 grams of M30 pills, a 9mm handgun and a baggie containing a white powdery substance.  Judge Natalie Martinez gave Bell credit for 20 days already served, and she also determined that Bell will be allowed to serve the two sentences concurrently.  A 33-month prison term for the felony 3rd degree drug possession charge was stayed for five years if Bell complies with the 22 different conditions of his probation, and Bell was convicted on both charges on January 5th, 2024 after pleading guilty to both charges the same day.  A gross misdemeanor charge for possession of any firearm after being convicted of or committing a drug offense against Bell in the case was dismissed with his guilty pleas.

Bell was also sentenced Friday to 317 days in jail and two years of supervised probation each for gross misdemeanor charges of 2nd degree, DWI, refuse to submit to a chemical test, and for unlawful possession of a firearm by an ineligible person after being found in possession of two containers with over 10 grams of a white, powdery substance, 65 alprazolam pills, over 30 M30 pills, 80 Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride pills, five Quetiapine pills, a pistol containing one round, a large container of .22 caliber ammunition, and a large amount of cash after a traffic stop on Oakland Place SE in Austin on November 24th, 2023.  Judge Martinez stayed 274 days of the jail time for two years if Bell adheres to the conditions of his probation, and he was given credit for 43 days already served.  

Bell was convicted on the two charges on January 5th, 2024 after pleading guilty the same day, and felony charges for 3rd degree drugs, possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin or fentanyl, 3rd degree drugs, possession of three grams or more of heroin, five grams or 25 dosage units of fentanyl, and for 5th degree drugs, possession of Schedule 1, 2, 3, 4 or paraphernalia residual, not cannabis or hemp, plus gross misdemeanor charges for unlawful possession of ammunition by an ineligible person, and for driving after cancellation, inimical to public safety in the case against Bell were all dismissed with his guilty plea.
