Hugo man sentenced to prison time on felony possession of tear gas or stun gun charge in Mower County District Court

A Hugo man who was involved in a standoff with authorities during an ongoing domestic situation at a residence on the 500 block of Oakland Avenue West in Austin on the morning of July 13th, 2021 has been sentenced to prison time in Mower County District Court.

36-year old Shawn Christopher Wlaschin was convicted and sentenced Thursday to 26 months in prison for a felony charge of prohibited use or possession of tear gas or a stun gun.  Wlaschin was also convicted and sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail for a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault.  Wlaschin was given credit for 90 days already served, and Judge Christa Dailey determined that the two sentences can be served concurrently.

Wlaschin first pleaded guilty to the two charges on January 24th, and a felony charge for domestic assault by strangulation and an additional misdemeanor charge for domestic assault in the case were both dismissed with Wlaschin’s guilty pleas.
