Austin Salvation Army Announces Closure of Thrift Store After 75 Years of Service

The Austin Salvation Army has announced the closure of its long-standing Family Store, marking the end of more than 75 years of service to the community.

Major Jeff Strickler, who leads the Austin Salvation Army stated in a news release that despite exhaustive efforts by staff to increase profitability, the thrift store has faced increasing financial challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Major Strickler added that the economic impact of the pandemic has made it increasingly difficult to maintain viability.  

The last day for accepting community donations will be Saturday, April 27, 2024, and the thrift store’s doors will remain open until its final day of operation on Friday, May 31, 2024.
