Herb and Murl’s to bid adieu to Mower County Fair customers after 69 years in operation

An institution at the Mower County Fair for the past 69 years will be coming to an end at the fair’s conclusion Sunday as the Herb and Murl’s food stand will be serving its last fair customers this year.  Barb Granholm, who along with her husband David and various family members have been operating the food stand these many years, spoke with John Wright from the Mower County Fair Thursday and stated that the food stand got its start as a popcorn stand in 1954….

Granholm went on to talk about how the Wonder Bar, a longtime staple of Herb and Murl’s that is ice cream on a stick, double-dipped in chocolate and rolled in chopped nuts came to be served at the stand…

Granholm was asked what were some of the things that stood out to her over the food stand’s long run at the Mower County Fair..

Granholm was also asked what food item she likes serving most at the stand, and she went on to say that it has definitely been a family affair concerning the stand’s operation these many years…

While Herb and Murl’s long-time run at the Mower County Fair will come to an end with the fair’s closing on Sunday, the foodstand will be in operation one final time at the National Barrow Show at the Mower County Fairgrounds September 8th through the 11th.
