Riverland Community College adjunct faculty member Helen Jahr has filed to run for Austin City Council in the First Ward.

Jahr is the second candidate to file for the First Ward seat currently held by Councilwoman Laura Helle. Current Honorary Councilmember Oballa Oballa filed to run for the First Ward seat last week.  In other filings for elected offices for the City of Austin, current Austin City Councilmembers Steve King and Jeff Austin, plus teacher, coach and Marine Corps veteran Jason Heimer have all filed for the office of Mayor, Michael Postma has filed for the city council seat in Ward 2, which is currently being held by Steve King and incumbent Paul Fischer has filed for his seat in the Third Ward. 

Also up for election in November are three four-year terms on the city’s Utility Board, and those positions are currently being held by Thomas Baulder, Tyler Hulsebus and Kris Johnson.  All have re-filed for their seats.  

Filings for city, state and federally elected offices remain open until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2nd.
