In a game you heard on AM 1480 KAUS and myaustinminnesota.com, the Grand Meadow Superlarks girls basketball team, tied with Kingsland atop the West Division of the Southeast Conference played host to the Lewiston/Altura Cardinals from the West Division of the Three Rivers League in a non-conference matchup in Grand Meadow, and it was the Superlarks jumping out to a 16-3 lead on their way to a 58-37 win, their 14th in a row.
Grand Meadow led from the start as they fired away from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half with Lewiston/Altura packing the lane with a 2-3 zone, and the Larks drained six 3’s in the half and their defense, giving up a Section 1A-best 32.5 points per game yielded only two Cardinal field goals in the opening half to lead 35-9 at the halftime break. Lewiston/Altura’s offense recovered in the second half, outscoring Grand Meadow 28-21, but it was too little, too late as the Larks pushed their lead to as large as 32 at 48-16 earlier in the half on their way to the win.
The Superlarks wound up draining nine 3-pointers and forcing 12 Cardinal turnovers, nine of them in the first half, and Grand Meadow was led in scoring by Lauren Queensland and Lexy Foster, their top two scorers average-wise as both finished with 16 points. Forward Rebecca Hoffman tallied nine points, all in the first half, Kendyl Queensland swished a pair of 3’s on her way to eight points, veteran guard Sydney Cotten also hit a pair of 3’s for six points and Gracie Foster tallied a 3-pointer in the first half for three points in the win.
Grand Meadow is now 20-2 on the season, and the Superlarks will play the second game of a back-to-back Saturday morning versus Lyle/Pacelli at All Saints Arena at Pacelli Catholic Schools in Austin in a make-up game from January 19th, with tip-off at 11 a.m.
