Four people injured in two-vehicle, head-on type accident on U.S. Highway 218 in Mower County Thursday afternoon

Four people were injured in a two-vehicle, head-on type accident on U.S. Highway 218 in Mower County late Thursday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2006 Honda Civic being driven by 20-year old Yesler Ariel Garcia Amador of Austin was traveling southbound on Highway 218 at approximately 4:21 p.m. Thursday afternoon when her vehicle collided head-on with a northbound 2009 Chevy Impala being driven by 47-year old Eric John Heusinkveld of New Richland at the intersection of 270th Street in Lansing Township.

Heusinkveld, Amador and two passengers in Amador’s vehicle, 23-year old Johana Eusebia Angulo Mairena of Austin, and 27-year old Areysi Antonio Jarquin Castro, also of Austin all sustained non-life threatening injuries, and all four victims were transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester  for treatment.  A third passenger in Amador’s vehicle, 20-year old Raymon Castillo of Austin was uninjured.  The State Patrol indicated that Amador, Heusinkveld and Mairena were all wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, and they added that it was unknown if Castrol and Castillo were wearing theirs.  

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, the Austin Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and Mayo Clinic Air Helicopter all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene late Thursday afternoon.
