The Austin Packers girls’ tennis team was at home against one of the top teams in the Big 9 Conference Tuesday in the personage of the Rochester Mayo Spartans, and it was the Spartans winning by the score of 7-0.

Head Coach Jeff Anderson stated that despite the score, there were some very competitive matches, and he added that the club continues to improve and the season has had a lot of success that is not in the scores.  The Packers are back into action in Red Wing on Friday, with a 5:00 p.m. start time.

In cross-country action, both the Austin Packers boys and girls squads took part in the Lake City invitational Tuesday, and in the girls competition Nadia Vaughn led the way with a 5th place finish, as she ran a time of 20:23.37.  For the boys, Jackson Marsh was 14th with a time of 17:54.44.

In volleyball, the Austin Packers were in action at Packer Gym against the Winona Winhawks in the Big 9 Conference, and it was the Winhawks outdeuling the Packers in five sets 25-22, 21-25, 25-15, 19-25 and 15-8.

Austin had three players with nine kills, including Avery Thompson, who added six digs and two ace serves, Kyra Walters and Erica Lundberg, who chipped in 11 digs and three ace serves.  AJ Richard ran the Packer offense with 35 set assists, and Austin also had four players with 10 or more digs, including Jordyn McCormack with 15, Leslie Rodriguez with 13 plus three ace serves, Madisyn Retterath and Lundberg each added 11.

The Packers are 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the Big 9 Conference, and they are back into action Thursday evening in Rochester against the Mayo Spartans.
