Austin Packers boys’ hockey falls to Faribault 7-0

In Austin Packers boys’ hockey you heard Thursday evening on AM 1480 KAUS, the Packers played host to the Faribault Falcons in a Big 9 Conference matchup at Riverside Arena, and it was sophomore forwards Brody Redding scoring twice and Oliver Linneman adding three assists to help lead to Falcons to a 7-0 win.

Faribault scored two goals only :26 second apart at 3:47 and 4:13 of the first period to lead 2-0, and they broke the game open with four goals in the first 4:17 of the second period, plus another at 9:01 of the period for the 7-0 final.

The Falcons outshot the Packers 59-23 for the game, and junior goaltender Ethan Knox stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced, and freshman Daran Plunkett turned away 25 of the 27 shots he faced in relief for Austin, while Faribault netminder Seamus O’Connor kicked out all 16 shots he faced in the first two periods for the win, and fellow senior netminder Jack Knutson faced seven shots and made seven saves in the third period.

With the loss, Austin is now 0-13 in the Big 9 Conference and 1-16 overall on the season.  The Packers return to action in Albert Lea versus the Tigers Saturday, with face-off at 5:00 p.m.
