Austin Packers baseball team falls to Kasson/Mantorville 7-3 Monday
The Austin Packers baseball team returned to the friendly confines of Dick Seltz Field Monday to take on Section 1AAA rival Kasson/Mantorville in a non-conference matchup, and it was the Komets making a 5-0 lead after four innings stand up in a 7-3 victory.
The Komets tallied one in the top of the first, two in the third and two more runs in the fourth to lead 5-0 before the Packers cut into the deficit with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to trail 5-2.  The Komets were able to answer with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh, and a single run for the Packers in the bottom half of the inning accounted for the 7-3 final, as the Komets totaled seven runs on 12 hits and no errors, while Austin totaled three runs, seven hits and two errors for the game.
The Packers were led offensively by Hadyn Quitmeyer, who was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored, Dakota Retterath went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI’s, Gage Helgeson was 1 for 3 with a run knocked in, Peyton Ransom had a hit in three official trips to the plate, and Benton Purkapile and Ethan Anderson were both 1 for 3 for the game.  Isaac Osgood got the start on the mound for Austin and was tagged with the loss, as he pitched the first 4 and 1/3rds of an inning and gave up five runs, four earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking four, and Jonah Klein went the last 2 and 2/3rds of an inning and gave up two runs, both earned, on four hits, striking out two and walking one.
With the loss, Austin falls to 2-5 on the season, and the Packers are right back into action this (Tuesday) afternoon at Dick Seltz Field versus Big 9 Conference foe Rochester Century, with first pitch at 5:00 p.m.
