Austin man sentenced to prison time on felony sexual conduct charge in Mower County District Court

An Austin man who pleaded guilty after having engaged in sexually explicit text messaging with a then 13-year-old girl from Grand Meadow in December of 2018 has been sentenced to prison time, plus fines and fees in Mower County District Court.

In an amended court decision Friday, 31-year old Jacob Steven Smith was convicted and sentenced to 15 months in prison and $985 in fines and fees for a felony charge of engaging in electronic communication with a child relating or describing sexual conduct.  Smith first pleaded guilty to the charge on October 22nd, 2021, and he was convicted on January 21st, 2022.

A felony charge for soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct through electronic communication in the case against Smith was dismissed with his guilty plea.
