Austin man pleads guilty to felony drug possession charge in Mower County District Court

An Austin man who was found to be in possession of a bag containing just over 100 grams of marijuana, a .22 caliber pistol and magazine and .45 caliber pistol ammunition after a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 218 and Mower County Road 28 on the evening of April 17th, 2020 has pleaded guilty in Mower County District Court.

27-year old Edbin Jose Coreas was charged in October of 2020 with felonies for being a violent felon in possession of a firearm and for 5th degree drug possession, plus a gross misdemeanor charge of user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm, and a misdemeanor charge for driving after revocation in connection to the incident in April of 2020.  Coreas pleaded guilty to the felony 5th degree drug possession charge Thursday after initially pleading not guilty to all of the charges against him in October of 2020.

A pre-trial hearing for Coreas in Mower County District Court has been scheduled for September 2nd, with a jury trial scheduled to start on September 12th.
