Austin man facing additional charges in Mower County District Court

An Austin man already facing six different charges, five of them felonies in Mower County District Court stemming from an incident that took place at a residence in northwest Austin late on the morning of Friday, August 11th where he was taken into custody after being found wearing body armor and in possession of a firearm after allegedly brandishing the weapon is facing additional charges in Mower County District Court.

During the first of two probation violation hearings Wednesday, 25-year old Jose Juan Alvarez-Bentzin Jr. was charged with a felony for 3rd degree drugs, sale of a narcotic stemming from an incident that took place in Austin on March 30th, 2022, and he was also charged with a gross misdemeanor for 5th degree drug possession stemming from an incident that took place in Austin on April 7th of this year.  Bail or bond with no conditions on the felony 3rd degree drug sale charge for Bentzin Jr. was set Wednesday at $75,000, while bail or bond  with no conditions for the gross misdemeanor drug possession charge was set at $6,000.  A scheduling conference for Bentzin Jr. on both charges in Mower County District Court has been scheduled for September 1st.

Bentzin Jr. was charged Monday with three felony counts of 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, plus he was also charged with felonies for committing a crime while wearing or possessing a bulletproof vest, and for receiving and/or possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, plus Alvarez-Bentzin Jr. was also charged Monday with a gross misdemeanor for being ineligible to receive, ship or transport weapons all stemming from the August 11th incident.  

Bentzin Jr. is being held in the Mower County jail on $150,000 bail or bond with no conditions, and his next appearance in Mower County District Court on the six charges will be a Rule 8 hearing on August 28th.
