Area corn and soybean harvests continue

The first snowfall of the season, along with scattered rain and hail, resulted in 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 29th, according to the latest Minnesota Crop Progress and Condition Report from the USDA.  KAUS News spoke with Josh Shofner, a Field Agronomist with Pioneer based in Zumbrota who stated that with the area’s soybean crop, this year’s drought has produced varying yields around southeastern Minnesota…

Shofner went on to state that the drought conditions during the growing season have also produced greatly varying yields for the area corn crop as well…

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 10 percent very short, 22 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 12 percent very short, 39 percent short, 47 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. 

Corn harvested for grain reached 75 percent complete in Minnesota, according to the report, one day behind last year but five days ahead of the 5-year average. Moisture content at harvest averaged 18 percent. The report went on to state that the Soybean harvest in the state has reached 94 percent complete, six days behind last year but five days ahead of the 5-year average.
