Area boys’ basketball roundup from Monday evening

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys’ basketball team was at home for the second game of a three-game homestand with the LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals Monday evening, and it was the Athletics earning their fourth win in a row as they downed the Cardinals in the Southeast Conference matchup 89-58.

Jed Nelson led four Athletics in double figures with 20 points, Cole Walter provided 19 points, Buay Koak added 17 points and Zach Bollingberg chipped in 13 points in the win.  Tanner Olson led LeRoy/Ostrander with 20 points, and Levi Royston added 15 points as Lyle/Pacelli led 40-33 at halftime on their way to the win.

The Athletics are now 10-1 in the SEC with the win, and 11-2 overall.  LeRoy/Ostrander fell to 4-5 in conference play with the loss, and they are now 4-5 overall on the season.

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms took a long road trip to Minneapolis Monday evening for a non-conference matchup with Hope Academy, and Drew Kittleson was one of two Blossoms players in double figures with 30 points to help lead BP to a 67-66 win.

In what Head Coach Nate Piller termed a hard-fought, back-and-forth contest, the Blossoms looked to get the ball into the post, while Hope Lutheran relied more on speed, 3-point shooting and trying to drive the ball to the basket.  Besides Kittleson’s 30 points, Mitch Fiebiger was also in double figures for BP with 13 points, Colin Jordinson provided eight points, Alex Miller chipped in six points and Luke Larkoski added five points in the win.  Blooming Prairie was able to withstand a 31-point night from Hope Academy’s Elijah Wade, and the Blossoms were able to hold Jordan Brown, who had hit 10 of 15 from 3-point range in a game last week for the Lions to only three points Monday evening.

With their third win in a row, Blooming Prairie moves to 5-7 overall on the season.  The Blossoms are right back into action this evening in a Gopher Conference matchup with NRHEG, with varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
