Area boys’ basketball roundup from Monday evening
The Southland Rebels continued a three-game, season-opening homestand Monday evening against Southeast Conference opponent LeRoy/Ostrander, and the Rebels had three players in double figures and 12 players overall in the scoring column on their way to a 74-34 win.
Ethan Forthun led the way for Southland in the lopsided win with 24 points and seven rebounds, Eli Wolff was 2-3 from beyond the 3-point arc in tallying 14 points, plus he also pulled in six rebounds, and Dan Boe added 14 points and eight rebounds. Harrison Hannah swished two 3-pointers on his way to scoring nine points while pulling in three rebounds for the Rebels, who are out to a 2-0 start after routing Houston 70-29 in their season opener Saturday in Adams.
Southland returns to action Thursday night versus Lyle/Pacelli in Adams, with the B-Squad tip off scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and the varsity tip off set for 7:30 p.m.
The Hayfield Vikings finished up a three-game, season-opening road trip Monday evening in Mapleton against Maple River, and the Eagles, who led 29-28 at the half outscored the Vikings 42-23 in the second half on their way to a 71-51 win.
Ethan Slaathaug hit three 3-pointers on his way to 27 points to lead the Vikings, while Isaac Matti added 13 points and Eric Bungum chipped in with nine points for Hayfield, who fell to 1-2 with the loss.
The Vikings open the home portion of their 2020-2021 schedule Friday night when they host Bethlehem Academy.
