Fire Departments from Blooming Prairie, Hayfield and Claremont responded to a fire in a hog barn near Blooming Prairie Thursday morning that killed approximately 2,000 pigs.

Authorities were first called to the scene of the fire on a farm located on Highway 30 between Blooming Prairie and Hayfield at approximately 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning.  Blooming Prairie Fire Chief Dean Naatz reported that the owner of the farm was inside working in the south half of the barn when he noticed smoke coming from the north side of the building.  Naatz stated that the owner was able to get out of the barn unharmed and reported the fire to authorities.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.  The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene of the fire Thursday morning.
