Thanks to a three-goal, two-assist weekend, Ben Almquist was named the Bauer NAHL Central Division First Star of the Week.

Almquist, a second-year Bruin, started the weekend off on a strong  note scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Bruins 4-0 home win over the Minnesota Magicians. On Saturday night, Almquist added on to his weekend total when he tallied two-goals and a helper, propelling the Bruins to a 5-2 win on the road over the Magicians. As a Minneapolis metro-area native,  it was a special night for Almquist who got to play in front of many friends and family members in attendance at the game.

“Ben had a great weekend for us. I thought Ben and his linemates worked really hard to earn scoring chances. He plays in all situations for us and leads by example. We hope that the NCAA schools see that and it earns him Division 1 scholarship,” said Bruins head coach Steve Howard.

Almquist becomes the first Bruin of the 2019-20 season to be awarded the Bauer NAHL Central Division First Star of the Week, with Jed Pietila and Dante Sheriff earning second star honors earlier this season.

The Bruins bookend the Thanksgiving holiday with a home-and-home series against the Minnesota Wilderness. On Wednesday, the black-and-gold travel up to Cloquet, before enjoying Thursday off for the holiday, and ultimately welcoming the Wilderness to Riverside Arena on Friday night. It’s a Black Friday Blackout in Austin for the Bruins home game where the team will be wearing their dark uniforms and encouraging fans to do the same.
