Alden teen dies in two-vehicle accident near Manchester Monday afternoon

A teen from Alden died in a two-vehicle accident between a car and a semi tractor near Manchester in Freeborn County Monday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2020 Peterbuilt tractor being driven by 57-year old Daniel Joe Pertracek of Waseca was traveling north on Highway 13 south of Manchester at approximately 2:47 p.m. Monday afternoon when he collided at the intersection of County Road 14 with a 2019 Ford Fiesta being driven by 16-year old Grace Elizabeth Zimmerman of Alden, whose vehicle had been traveling east on County Road 14.  

Zimmerman was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems of Albert Lea, where she later died.  Pertracek was uninjured, and the State Patrol reported that both parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.  The State Patrol added that the road was wet at the time of the accident, and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, plus Fire Departments from Albert Lea and Manchester assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene.
