Albert Lea man facing felony fleeing a peace officer charge in Mower County District Court

An Albert Lea man accused of leading authorities on a cross-border chase into north Iowa in April is pleading not guilty in Mower County District Court.

37-year old Weston William Zuehl is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and driving with a cancelled license. Zuehl was accused of driving away from an attempted traffic stop on April 20 in the city of Lyle.

Authorities reported that Zuehl drove south on U.S. Highway 218 into Iowa, forcing numerous northbound vehicles to drive onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. Zuehl was eventually arrested in Mitchell County after crashing his vehicle near the city of Carpenter and attempting to escape on foot.

A trial for Zuehl in Mower County District Court is scheduled to begin on March 8, 2021.
