Aberdeen Wings complete sweep of Austin Bruins Saturday evening 3-1

The Aberdeen Wings, who have scored the game’s first goal in 22 of their games this season made it 23 with a tally early in the first period on their way to completing a sweep of the Austin Bruins 3-1 a Riverside Arena Saturday evening.

Thomas Manty scoreed his 12th goal of the season only 2:42 into the game Saturday night to put the Wings on top 1-0, and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Aberdeen until a power play goal from Travis Shoudy midway through the third period to tie the game at 1.  The Wings retook the lead with a power play goal of their own from Spencer Schneider to give Aberdeen a 2-1 lead, and an empty-net goal in the final minute of the third made the final 3-1.

With the loss, the Bruins fall to 7-12-2-2 on the season while the Wings improve to 25-1-0-1 on the year. Tyler Shea turned away 32 of the 35 shots he faced in the game, while Jake Sibell earned his league-leading 23rd win by stopping 21 of 22 shots.  Austin’s power-play was 1-for-5 in the game, while Aberdeen was 1-4.

Up next for the Bruins, they begin a three-in-three on Thursday night against the Chippewa Steel in Wisconsin before heading to Cloquet to do battle with the Wilderness and finally wrapping up the weekend at home against Wilderness for a second time.
