Two people injured, one seriously, in one-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Freeborn County Monday afternoon

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a one-vehicle, rollover-type accident on Interstate 35 in Freeborn County Monday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 being driven by 71-year old John Albert Hopper of Witichta, Kansas was traveling northbound on Interstate 35 at approximately 2:19 p.m. Monday afternoon when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled at milepost 4 in Freeman Township.

Hopper sustained non-life threatening injuries in the accident, while a passenger in his vehicle, 70-year old Jesma Roberta Hopper, also of Witicha, Kansas sustained life-threatening injuries, and both were transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea  for treatment.  The State Patrol noted that both parties involved in the incident were wearing their seatbelts, and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, MnDOT, Mayo EMS, and the Glenville Fire Department all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene Monday afternoon.
