Two Iowa residents killed in three-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Rice County Friday afternoon

Two residents of Iowa were killed in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Rice County Friday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2019 Toyota Camry being driven by 57-year old Matthew Henry Hanson of Urbandale, Iowa, a 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup being driven by 34-year old Shawn Thomas Lyngass of Albert Lea and a 2021 Volvo semi being driven by 54-year old Billie Joe Grimes of Lancing, Tennessee were all northbound on Interstate 35 at approximately 1:33 p.m. Friday afternoon when they collided near mile marker 53 in Walcott Township.

Both Hanson and a passenger in his vehicle, 56-year old Cimberly Ann Hanson, also of Urbandale, Iowa were killed in the accident, while Lyngass and Grimes were both uninjured.  The State Patrol indicated that all parties involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts, and Sheriff’s Departments from Rice and Steele Counties, Police and Fire Departments from Faribault, and North Ambulance all assisted the State Patrol at the scene of the accident Friday afternoon.
