Seven Mayo Clinic hospitals, including the Austin and Albert Lea campuses scored high marks for safety, earning an “A” for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

Mayo Clinic hospitals that received an “A” grade included the facilities in Austin and Albert Lea, and also included the Mayo Clinic Hospitals in Rochester, Arizona and Florida, and Mayo Clinic Health System facilities in Red Wing, and in Eau Claire and La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The Hospital Safety Score is updated and published twice per year. The score is based on 17 measures of publicly available hospital safety data, combined with 11 additional self-reported survey answers, to produce a single patient safety score. A panel of safety experts developed these measures.

The Leapfrog Group is one of many groups that recognize Mayo Clinic as a top choice for patients.
